Active:Water - Tree of Life
Our Tree of Life campaign is designed for anyone with a printer, some scissors, and a heart full of both compassion and ambition this holiday season. This simple campaign is designed to be done at schools, churches, cafes or any place that will give you permission to set up.
This particular idea came from some high school students in Wisconsin. Three girls responded from a presentation on the international water crisis that Daren Wendell, founder of Active:Water and The Earth Expedition gave to their school. They requested the only possession Daren had stated he was not able to sell at his "Everything I Own Sale" to help launch the Earth Expedition. It was a very sad looking artificial christmas tree. Daren asked the girls their intentions for the tree and they told him that they wanted to take the tree and set it up in their lunch room, so he happily obliged, grateful to have his car trunk empty once and for all. For two weeks leading up to Christmas the young ladies gave up their lunch time in order to sell paper ornaments they had cut out to their fellow students for $1 a piece. They offered their fellow classmates the opportunity to give the “Gift of Life” to someone they will never meet in a place most will never go. Each student signed their name to an ornament and hung it on the tree. After Christmas, the girls sent an envelope with all of the signed ornaments they had sold and a letter stating how they had raised the $500 check to go toward the water crisis in Africa. Now that is “Life to the Fullest”!
The idea is simple:
- Set up a Christmas tree at a place of interest.
- Download our festive ornament with name slot.
- Cut out each ornament and use a hole punch and thin ribbon to make a loop hanger to suspend from tree.
- Make some promo signs on poster board to keep near your event.
- Take $1 donations for each ornament sold and hung on the tree.
- Hand out Active:Water brochures/flyers to interested patrons who are eager to learn more about how they, too can become involved.
