Swim to Chicago
On August 5th, 2011 Daren Wendell will swim across Lake Michigan. He's swimming a body of water that several swimmers have attempted to cross, but only a couple have completed - and he will be the first to do it east to west, against the powerful westerly winds. Daren is an endurance athlete, but he isn't a long-distance swimmer. This week he's revving up to do the nearly impossible, tremendously dangerous 42.1 mile swim from Grand Beach, Michigan to Chicago, IL in order to save the lives of people on the other side of the world. He's swimming for ActiveWater to raise awareness of the water crisis plaguing millions around the world, and he's focusing his energy on Zambia, Africa, where young girls have to walk miles every day to fetch dirty, diseased water. He's swimming because he believes the only life worth living is the one lived for others. He's swimming because he knows that anyone anywhere can use any talent to make the world a better place. He's swimming to live life to the fullest.

Daren needs help to make an impact on the water crisis. Anyone can join in this event by encouraging and supporting him as he trains and prepares, by spreading the word about the Swim to Chicago and ActiveWater's efforts to save lives in Zambia, and by donating money to provide a community well in Ndola, Zambia.
